Irish Lights is a statutory maritime all-island organisation, delivering an essential 24/7 safety and navigation service around the coast of Ireland, protecting the marine environment, and supporting the marine industry and coastal communities. Irish Lights’ mission is to be a leading provider of reliable, efficient and cost-effective navigation and maritime services for the safety of all. It’s remit includes the provision and maintenance of over 340 general aids to navigation, regulation of Local Aids to Navigation including consenting and the superintendence of approx. 3500 local aids and the marking and removing of dangerous wrecks.

Irish Lights is seeking to appoint a Planning and Policy Manager (PPM) to join its senior management team. This role reports directly to the Director of Navigation, Maritime & Consenting, and the successful candidate will:

• Lead on stakeholder engagement at national and international level providing an authoritative input to key regulatory, planning, advisory and policy processes, committees and working groups relevant to safety of navigation
• Manage, develop, advise and report on Irish Lights internal processes for Navigation Safety and Aids to Navigation with a view to supporting Irish Lights statutory role in planning & regulation.
• Stay abreast of emerging maritime safety and related policy and stakeholder issues and relate these to the design and ongoing delivery of Irish Lights services.
• Co-ordinate and prepare statutory and management reports and oversee project delivery.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and networking skills and will be adept at articulating the role of Irish Lights to internal and external stakeholders. The PPM will have senior leadership team experience, hold a relevant degree / equivalent level qualification and have in depth experience relating to maritime policy, regulation, engineering, safety or science. They will have a track record in designing, developing and delivering new strategies and services as a response to policy and regulatory changes.
