Irish Lights is seeking a Support Operative for a hands-on role in the Coastal Operations Department in Dun Laoghaire. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will help to maintain Irish Lights assets, with a primary focus on the refurbishment of navigation buoys in the Buoy Yard. The role also involves travel and work at coastal and third-party locations as required.
Key responsibilities
- Carry out washing, grit blasting, painting and assembling mechanical structures, including buoys.
- Undertake basic welding on buoy bowls and daymarks.
- Complete basic 12-volt DC electrical work and mechanical assembly.
- Operate mobile plant and equipment, including forklifts, teleporters and cranes.
- Support stores activities, including operating a reach truck, issuing goods and carrying out stock checks.
- Drive a van for short and long journeys as required.
- Assist technicians with general operative work.
- Maintain positive environmental standards and procedures.
- Follow all risk, safety and environmental management requirements.
Salary and benefits
The successful candidate will receive an attractive starting salary of €34,557, together with a range of other benefits.
